From The Pastor's Desk

Good morning we area really glad you came. Today I am pleased to announce that Barry Mossip will be preaching the Word. Barry and Amanda both have sensed a call to ministry and as a result Barry has been taking courses at Horizon College and Seminary through distant education. One of the requirements of the courses is to preach a sermon to a congregation and today he is fulling that requirement. I would like to commend Barry and Amanda for giving excellent leadership to the senior youth ministry. Let’s continue to hold them up in prayer as they continue to follow the Lord’s leading in their lives. Also just as a reminder, there will be a pastors council meeting today after the service.

Have a great week.

From The Pastor's Desk

Good morning and we are so glad you are here.

Last week I completed a series on the Sex Talk. My last message may have touched a nerve or two. As a pastor I am called to ‘rightly handle the Word of truth.’ Although I know I am not the worlds’ best preacher, I can assure you that I take this responsibility serious and endeavour to do so with deep humility and utmost care. It is part of my calling to preach the Word of God. The Bible is clear on a lot of issues that our society is struggling with. When we come to church we should expect to hear and be challenged by what the Bible has to say. In liberal Christian teaching, man’s reason is stressed and is treated as the final authority. In essence Liberal theology is the desire for the Christian faith to be free from the Word of God in methods, morals and message. Liberal theology will treat the bible as a fable. At the core of this belief, a desire to be free from the Word of God, whether through Jesus or the written Word reveals how sinful we really are. The Bible is truly God’s Word. Here a couple of verses to think about:

“We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:19-21)

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,  ebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be horoughly equipped for every good work.”  (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The End Times will be marked by people who choose to disrespect the Word of God. Jesus had a lot to say about liberal theology. Mathew 7:26-27 says, “Everyone then who
hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and floods came, and the winds blew and beat
against that house and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

As we come to church we may find our beliefs being challenged by the Word of God. As a pastor I have observed this interesting behaviour, “liars get offended when you talk about lying, and people who are having affairs get uncomfortable when you bring up infidelity”. At the end of the day I am responsible to preach the truth of God’s Word which means I can’t always cater to what makes people happy. However, the Word of God should make us happy when we realize that God’s ways are far above man’s ways and that when we come to Jesus we are set free to live a life of freedom from sin which is truly liberating. I believe we need a revival in a love for the Word of God. We should embrace the incarnate Word and be challenged by the Words of Jesus and worship Him alone. At the end of day God gets the final Word.

Till next week.
