The Family Kitchen Table

a moment for families and couples

Our children at what ever age have been entrusted into our care by God. Without the Holy Spirit’s help, the job can overwhelm. Being a young person’s guide for walking and following Jesus can be intimidating. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind.

The Apostle Paul functioned as a spiritual father to many churches. To his church in Corinth, Paul said, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). So how do we walk with integrity within our family?

First understand we have an audience. Our children are watching everything we do and the decisions we make. Our actions must line up with our words.
Secondly, dwell or abide in a relationship with Christ. Everyday conversations with the Lord in prayer together with your children will build in them a confidence to approach the throne of grace boldly with all kinds of requests. He is a good, good Father who cares for us and we can come to Him any time.
Thirdly do what Jesus would do. Pray for healing, expect miracles and walk with joy.
And last of all, walk humbly and admit your mistakes. This level of honesty shows our children that we all make mistakes, but also how to make things right with God and others.

The emotional strength that comes from walking with the Lord with your family is built over time. It is in this context that our faith is modeled to our children.

May the Lord bless you and your family this week.

Helping your family be strong in the Lord!

Step 4

Families who are strong in the Lord take the time to seek Him and know Him in their hearts.

Ephesians 1:16-18 says “I do not cease to pray for the eyes of your hearts to be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of your calling and what is the wealth of the glory of
God’s inheritance in the saints.”

The challenge is for us to know the glory of our hope in Christ. To see with the eyes of the heart and not just think about it with the mind. Take time to pray and seek the Lord.
